Green card Lottery Eligibility.

Green card lottery eligibility requirements are given in the instructions provided by the American Government. First of all the one who want to apply for the green card lottery program must have been born in an eligible country as it must be in the US Governments eligible country list.

So here are the main eligibility requirements to participate in the greencard lottery which is held by the US Government annually.

1. Must be born in an eligible country. You can participate even if you are living in another country.
2. Must be more than 18 years of age.
3. Should have successfully completed High School Examination after following the junior and high school education for a period of 12 years. Or you must have 2 years of work experience within the last 5 years after learning and training the profession for a period of 2 years. To qualify on the basis of work experience, occupation must be in the Job Zone 4 or 5, classified in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) range of 7.0 or higher in the Department of Labor's (DOL) O*NetOnLine database.

A person who was born in an ineligible country is married and if the spouse is coming from an eligible country the person can claim the spouse country for eligibility. If he/she becomes as a winner in the green card lottery both the couple must enter the USA together.

A person who was born in an ineligible country can be charged to the country of birth of either of his/her parents as long as neither parent was a resident of the ineligible country at the time of the your birth.

An eligible person can submit only one entry for a fiscal year green card lottery program.

Countries which are not eligible to participate in the 2013 Green card Lottery.
BANGLADESH, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, ECUADOR, EL SALVADOR, GUATEMALA, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PERU, PHILIPPINES, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM. Those persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan are eligible to participate in the DV2013 lottery.

Why these countries are not eligible to participate in the 2013 Greencard lottery?
Because these countries did sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years period.
